Dustin had left the castle to explore the grounds and though they had been thoroughly warned not to go into the Forbidden Forest without the guidance of a teach he had disobeyed the warning and gone by himself. He couldn't help it, he was curious and he wanted to be able to get out there and do something. To prove to people he wasn't a coward. Well, he would be proving something had he not gotten lost. It was so dark in the forest despite it being mid-morning that he didn't remember which way he'd come, and all the sounds of the forest were beginning to make him feel awkward.
Turning around he started in the other direction, again. "Maybe this is the right way out. I'm sure that was the tree I'd passed on the way in." Unfortunately as he continued walking he saw that he was very much wrong, the forest was growing thicker with each step. "I can't believe this, but I'm lost." Getting lost was becoming way too much of a habit, he needed to get out, and get out fast. Pushing his way through the trees he gave a grunt as he robe snagged onto a branch and nearly ripped it off his arm. "This is not my day."

Raven left the castle quickly after a particularly boring History of Magic lesson. She couldn’t stay inside any longer. ‘I have to get some air! she thought to herself as trotted out onto the grounds. She wasn’t sure where she was headed; she just knew that she needed some space. She was an expert wanderer after all. She reached up and loosened the tie that was part of her Hogwarts uniform; it was still very warm as the term had only just started. ‘Already frustrated with my classes…’ she thought, remembering that her fifth year was her OWL year. She knew she would have to start at least attempting to pay attention in history.
She paused as she found herself at the edge of the forest. It held no fear for her anymore. She had gone from venturing into it trying to prove to herself that she wasn’t scared of rumors, to be absolutely terrified to go near it, to finding no fear in it at all. Though she knew from experience that it wasn’t just a regular forest, it had many secrets and many creatures dwelling in it. She knew from experience to be cautious and to be very aware but she also knew that she would be fine. She knew the forest pretty well as she chose to go deep into it on a particular night every month. She chose to enter it now as well. She needed time to clear her mine of pointless dates and her head set on more important things. She was several hundred yards into the forest when she stopped to take off her outer robe; it was far to hot to be wearing it. She layed her robe on the ground with her bag and continued to walk. ‘I’ll be coming back this way anyway.’ she though to herself.
She froze when she heard a voice, a young voice, that seemed to be talking to itself. She glanced around and finally after finding it’s source called out, “Hey! What are you doing in here?” she asked, a bit sharper than she meant to, when she saw that it was young boy. ‘He can’t be more than a first year, or maybe a second year….’ she thought. ‘Why would a kid be hanging around this deep in the forest?’ she asked herself as she walked over. She wasn’t really that fond of the younger students. She sighed as she helped him dislodge his robe from a low hanging tree branch.

Dustin wasn't panicking, but he wanted to get himself loose of this branch. Trying not to rip his robe he tugged at it again, but stopped as he heard someone call out to him. He looked around and spotted someone coming towards him. What if it was one of those creatures out in the forest that he'd been told about? Or a teacher, or a prefect. Dustin tried not to look nervous as the figure got closer. The brown haired first year was relieved to see it was just another student. And even more relieved when she helped get his robe out the branch.
"Thanks." Dustin straightened out his clothing. He guessed she would still want an explanation of why he was out here. "I know I'm not suppose to be here, but I got bored, and sort of got lost trying to get out." He was sure he could have gotten out by himself alone, but he wasn't complaining that she had come to his rescue. Not like it was intentional. Dustin looked at the branch one last time and then to the girl. She was older and a Slytherin.
It was a risk, but he was going to ask. "Um, why are you out here?" For Merlin's sake he hoped curiosity really didn't kill the cat. Daring to question an older student seemed like suicide. Then again, she was just a girl.

“Thanks” came the young boys reply. Raven gave him a quick smile. She really wasn’t one that spent much time dwelling on the disjointedness of the houses. She didn’t care that the boy was a… she paused to look at his uniform… Hufflepuff. “I know I’m not supposed to be here, but I got bored, and sort of got lost trying to get out.” she heard him say. Part of her wanted to be angry, that’s what she had been doing when she only a little older than him. She had gotten bored and restless and then gotten lost and then… She fought back the memories and tried not to feel bitter. Nothing could change what happened.
“Look, kid, umm what’s your name?” she asked, not unkindly but a bit more serious than she had meant. “I know the forest looks like a fun place to explore but it’s not. It’s dangerous, that’s why we’re warned away from it. There are dangerous creatures in here, monsters.” she said, trying not to sound like a scolding mother.
“Why are you out here?” The question made Raven stop for a second. Why was she out here? ’Because I was bored….’ she answered herself in her head though she didn’t say this out loud. When she was that young she would have never dared to question an older student. She admired this kid’s guts and thought that for that, he at least deserved her honesty. ”I just came from a history lesson and was bored. I needed some space.” she answered him in a tone that was somewhere between sarcasm and laughter.

Dustin didn't want her lecturing him, he knew what was in here. Well he didn't know, know, but he knew it was bad in here. He knew stuff was in here, he just didn't know what kinds of stuff. The way she said monsters made it sound like he was an eight year old that believed in the boogeyman. Dustin gave her a small look as she gave the explanation as to why she was out here. And she was lecturing him? "I'm Dustin," he said. "Dustin Taylor." The first year paused momentarily. "Um, you're not going to tell on me, are you?"
The last thing Dustin wanted to do was get in trouble. He didn't want to seem like a trouble maker because he wanted to explore. No, he was a good student. Dustin looked up at her with round eyes. "What's your name?" He asked. He was hoping that maybe she would be able to lead him out. Asking directly would sound like he was scared, and he wasn't, so he wouldn't. He glanced around at the forest. It was kind of cool to be out here, but he guessed she was right about the dangers. He wouldn't make it a habit of being out here.

‘I’m Dustin… Dustin Taylor.’ she heard. ”First year or second?” she asked, still unsure of the boy’s age. She was a bit surprised that he had taken the news that she was out there because she was bored too so evenly. Especially after she had just gotten done telling him how the forest was dangerous. ‘You’re not going to tell on me, are you?’. Was she? No. She wasn’t that kind of person, but she had to make sure he got her point. She knew first hand what kind of damage the forest could cause.
“No, I’m not-” she hesitated, changing what she was about to say, “I’m not going to tell on you if you promise me that you won’t come in here again. Ok? I’m serious, the forest is not place for a kid. There are dangers that you can’t imagine in here.” she stated, she cared enough that she didn’t want someone else to have her own experience…. ‘…or a worse experience.’ she thought to herself as an afterthought.
”I go by Raven.” she said as an answer to his next question. She ran her hand through her hair and glanced around. She had her next lesson in about half an hour and she knew she should probably help Dustin out of the forest. “Perhaps leaving you in here by yourself would teach you not to come in again.” she muttered being a bit unkind, but that just came with being in Slytherin. Of course, she wasn’t serious. She wasn’t that kind of person.

(Sorry for the delay)
"First," he mumbled. He wondered if a second year would have know better to come out here. Of course not. Everyone was curious and a little rule breaking never hurt anyone. Well, maybe being in a forest full of blood thirsty creatures was different, but that was besides the point. He shouldn't be here and could have gotten serious injured, or killed. His heart skipped a beat at the thought. His mom would be upset beyond belief. He shook his head, trying to rid himself of the thought.
Dustin stared up at her with a ting of disbelief. She was no more than a kid herself! How could she make him promise something when she couldn't hold to it herself! They'd both come in here because they were bored and she was trying to make him promise? Dustin's reluctance showed in hesitation to bound himself to something he knew he couldn't and wouldn't keep. "I promise," he lied. He knew better than to argue, it would only start trouble, and sometimes lying kept people out of trouble.
He nodded at her name, but his blue eyes widened when she muttered something about leaving him. "Please don't," he spoke quickly. He didn't want to be stuck out here! What would happen if he didn't find his way out? Would she come back for him? Or what if he didn't get out until late? Would the castle doors be open? Panic sparked in Dustin and his eyes begin to water. He didn't want to be left alone!
